Everyone’s talking about health food, that means reducing ailments and increasing the possibilities of having good life and being healthy throughout the years. So let’s talk more about color on your plate. Well I’m having Reds, Yellows/Oranges, Greens, Purples/Blues and Whites in my diet. This will give me so much joy knowing that there is a relevant between the color of food we eat and the color I usually use to paint.
This combination of color is what I want to see on my paintings, the color red, green, orange, yellows, and blues. The more you see them on the plate, the more health you are also getting from your vegetable and fruit intakes.
Our nutritionists had many research showing how this colorful vegetables and fruits contain all-important vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals that our body needs to gain health and help you feel great.
Consider this notes:
Reds

Adding deep reds or bright pinks to your daily food, it is said that you are also adding a powerful antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene which is usually found in tomatoes, red and pink grapefruit, watermelon, papaya and guava, is very good to our daily intake. It has the ability to fight heart disease and some cancers, that is, the lycopene.
Blues/Purples
These add health-enhancing flavonoids, phytochemicals, and antioxidants. The pigments found that responsible for the blue color are being studied, because it is said to be the body’s defense of harmful caecinogens, that is, the Anthocyanins, a phytochemical. Blues and purples add beautiful shades of calmness and richness to your plate. In particular, blueberries are so rich in Vitamin C and folic acid and also high in fiber and potassium. Researchers have shown us their record that a serving of fresh blueberries would give us more antioxidant activity than those we usually eat.
Greens

So do you know why this color is so necessary to your diet? Green vegetables look great and taste good and they are rich in the phytochemicals that keep you well. We found carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin in collards, spinach, kale. Broccoli have antioxidant properties and are being studied for their ability to protect our eyes, thus, keeping our retina strong. Some cruciferous vegetables and others are being studied to see if they may reduce the risk of cancerous tumors! We also knew that greens provide us essential vitamins (folate), fiber and minerals.
Oranges/Yellows
The nutrition we need is a beta-carotene that is found in the orange vegetables and fruits like mangos, apricots, sweet potato and carrots. This carotenoid is a natural antioxidant and still being studied for its role in enhancing the immune system. Most often we found Folate in leafy greens, is also found in orange fruits and vegetables. We should know that bright yellows have many of the same ingredients as the orange groups. Tough as a powerful health-protector, the orange group is rich in Vitamin C. I would suggest that you make the orange group a part of your daily diet.
Whites
Note this one, I don’t usually eat onions because I don’t like the crunchy taste, but this kind of vegetables from the onion family contain the phytochemical allicin., and that include garlic, leeks, scallions, chives, and any variety of onion, Research is being conducted on Allicin, that is, to learn how it may help lower our blood pressure and cholesterol and increase the body’s ability to battle infections. They found Indoles and sulfaforaphanes, these are phytochemicals in cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, for finding how they may inhibit cancer growth. Another one is Polyphenols, a very important phytochemical in pears and green grapes, studying how they may reduce the risk of certain cancers.
Now you know the importance of colors which I associated to the food we eat and the understanding we have to gain from reading this article and what to prioritize when it comes to healthy eating diet. Just to let you know that colors are very important to the eyes of an artist as well as important to everybody else regarding the food we eat. There is color in every season, while there are many colors in every painting.
